There are no whales in Whale Bay, Tambor.

We've heard it more then once that the famous bay in Tambor 'Whale Bay' has not been visited by whales for decades. Of course this comment seems to come from people that don't live here. Just ask any local fisherman and they will tell you that every year many whales come right inside the bay and sometimes stay here for days at a time. As do the dolphins and the huge manta rays.

Getting a picture is another story. The local fishermen don't carry cameras and even if they did they would not be photographing marine life. So to get a photo of whale, a humpback whale to be exact takes some luck. We got lucky a few weeks ago when we saw this humpback whale swim out of Tambor Bay with her calf.
A telephoto lens would have been nice but we manged to get the camera out of the bag and get the shot just as they dove. We waited for another 20 minutes for them to surface but our fishing trip had  to resume. Later we saw them 20km away heading north.

Recession? What Recession?

As more and more of our customers come back to Costa Rica to check on our building and development progress, it's easy for them to see just how busy we really are. And after a site tour with Michael, our General Contractor, it becomes apparent that Monterra's construction division is ramped-up and fully trade operational.
Michael says, " We have more then 25 homes on the board as of today (Dec. 28th) and we are expecting 25 more by June (2013). Our crew has been expanded to 30 guys and we'll need another 30 by March".

It looks like we are quickly approaching our maximum construction allotment for 2013 so if you're considering a build this year then please call our office at (905) 750-0010 ASAP to receive and review our Architectural Agreement. Square foot cost is going up Feb.18th but you can still lock in at 2012 prices before then.

Rios del Sol - Phase 2 Titles are Here!

From the Central Registry, in San Jose, we have just received the first 17 titles for RDS Phase 2. The final number of lots to be developed is only 35! (down approx 50% from the previous master plan) making this phase very exclusive, great for big sky lovers and extreme nature seekers.
This phase is adjacent to the famous Nicoya Biological Corridor and is one of the most Flora / Fauna abundant areas in Costa Rica. Phase 2 also offers the largest lots in Monterra's inventory with the smallest being 1.9 acres. This place is nature extreme!
OCR will be contacting each owner this January to arrange title transfer.

Happy New Year.

Attention to Detail.

Attention to detail makes all the difference when it comes to building homes. Monterra is well into its construction mandate, with another 15 homes awaiting approvals for the Valle de Luz Development.

"We’re building to quality standards, not often seen on the peninsula or in the beach areas of Costa Rica. When we do see it though, the prices are more then $160.00 per square foot", says Michael Pechbrenner, MDG Constructores' General Contractor. "We are still well below that."

After Costa Rica's major earthquake on November 12, 2012, we inspected our buildings, offices and homes. Not a single crack or deficiency was found. "That says a lot about a building company. Anyone can design a pretty home, but building a strong one, now that takes engineering and experience", explains Michael.

Monterra is now designing for summer 2013’s building season.

What's Going on with Puntarenas?

Wow, this little port town is really growing up. Paved roads and parking, shops and restaurants? Swimming pools, Marina and boat rentals too? It's looks more like a Florida fishing village then the Puntarenas we used to know.

Actually this has been in the planning for 5 years and is one of the improvements to the area that Monterra has expected. Remember, when we first moved to this area there was on 1 small ferry (30 cars) going to across the bay (now 2-160 car ferries). We knew all that was going to change, and it has. Getting to the Peninsula is fast and easy today, and by the time you wait for a commuter flight and fly here, you may as well drive to Puntarenas, shop, eat and take the ferry across. Scenic and fun.  Or from Playa Tambor, visiting San Jose or Jaco just got better too! 5 years ago this was full day commitment - today, a few hours.

All this is part of the government's commitment to modernize and develop this special area of Costa Rica. Ask any Costa Rican where the most beautiful place in the country is and they will most likely tell you it's the Nicoya Peninsula. And now this World famous 'Blue Zone' is more accessible to everyone.
